New paper examines complexity of food system resilience

A newly published open access paper from the GFS-FSR programme calls for a new approach to enhancing food systems resilience.

The paper, Food System Resilience: Concepts, Issues, and Challenges, is published in the Annual Review of Environment and Resources.

With a focus on enhancing the resilience of food system outcomes, the authors argue that food system actors will have to adapt their activities.  These activities do not change spontaneously but in response to a change in drivers: an opportunity or a threat.

In addition, operationalising resilience enhancement involves normative choices and will result in decisions having to be negotiated about trade-offs among food system outcomes for different stakeholders.

The paper is available in Vol. 47:511-534 (October 2022).
